Portraits
Grace Kelly

Artistic Impression of an Official Portrait
Grace Kelly has long held the fascination of the public for both her beauty as well as her real-life role as the Princess of Monaco. In 1956 Prince Rainier III proposed marriage. He presented Miss Kelly with a set of engagement jewels as a gift consisting of a necklace, earrings, and bracelet by Van Cleef &Arpels. Research finally revealed close-up photographs with enough clarity that the earrings and neckless could be reproduced in exact detail. She was wearing them in this official engagement portrait. She was twenty-six years old.

Nefertiti

An interpretation of the famous statue, that sits in the Neues Museum in Berlin. Nefertiti was the Great Royal Wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten known for creating a new religion based on one god and requiring all to worship accordingly. Some scholars believe she ruled briefly after Akhenaten's death before Tutankhamun took the throne.

Pieta
Mary from the Pieta by Michelangelo on display in the Vatican. Used various photographs to compile and draw the image. The drawing is completely in Illustrator and with Photoshop used only for the tint. The second photo is the vector wire construction drawing not showing the color.
Quotes from Michelangelo
The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.
Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.

Winston Churchill
A massive amount of information is available on the life of Churchill, making him one of the most covered figures of the Twentieth Century. I offer only a few interesting tidbits:
Painting – The brush and canvas was a source of relaxation for most of his life, especially when out of politics. One of his paintings sold in 2007 at Sotheby's in London for £ 1,000,000. Churchill could have certainly used that money during his life.
Alcohol – While certainly consuming more alcohol than average, it is generally accepted that Churchill was not an alcoholic. In a wager with Viscount Rothermere, he stated he could abstain from all alcohol for a year. He won the bet.
Famous Quotes – His mastery of the English language was exceeded only by his witty rejoinders. Below is one of my favorites:
Lady Nancy Astor: Winston, if you were my husband, I'd poison your tea.
Churchill: Nancy, if I were your husband, I'd drink it.”

Tamara Lempicka

PORTRAIT OF AN ART DECO ARTIST
Tamara de Lempicka was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1898. Was forced to leave St. Petersburg as a refugee during the Soviet revolution, eventually breaking the mold for female artists early in the 20th century. The many parts of her tumultuous life sometimes overshadow her artistic talent. She painted liberated women in the 'synthetic cubist' method with strong contrasts that made her works immediately recognizable. However, more importantly, de Lempicka challenged the limitations imposed on the art and life of a woman. From a photograph, I drew her duplicating the style she used in her paintings. Most people will recognize her Art Deco work "Young Girl In Green"

Visonia of Avagon
Out from an older time of tyrants and famine rose a noble King Warwick, bringing peace to the peopled land and uniting thus under the call and house of Avagon. Bright from within, the masters, under secret and lonesome task, upon heavens study, did create the Starfinder. From thus, seafaring, with a starlit night flourished. Available to none but the ships of Avagon, merchants went thus forth and the Kingdom was blessed beyond expectations in riches and trade while far peoples were with themselves at war.
Hither lies the people's Princess Visonia. Loved by all and kept in most splendid care, displays she well the secret of Avagon's abundance.
